The summer is over and the cold weather is starting to creep in along with dark evenings
and mornings and with a crazy summer of sunny days, rainy days and humid days, the body
needs to Repair and Prepare for the Winter Months. So here are a few Tips to guide you
As a result of a summer full of weather changes and the possibility of a harsh winter ahead,
I’m sure as you can imagine the skin is stressed and you may even find that your skin type is
changing or indeed dull and tired looking. . Sorry for the bad news everyone but because of
the massive and ever growing hole in our ozone layer the UV Rays are getting much stronger
which means that everyone should be using Factor 50+ all over (unless you have extremely
sallow skin Factor 35+), all of these Factors are available in Regular, Hypo-allergenic and Oil-
Free in most Salons and Pharmacy’s nowadays due to demand. Try to use Paraben Free(type
of chemical), natural Skin Care i.e. Seaweed, Peat, Tea-Tree ect.. as they are designed to
help the skin from the inside out. The skin absorbs approx 60%-70% of what is applied to it.
Chemicals and harsh ingredients can wear the skin down and have an opposite effect on the
skin, increases sensitivities, allergies and drying of skin which in turn speeds up premature
aging!! Not Good!
For face, neck and decollate area make sure you are using a cleanser or face wash to get
all the grime, make-up and oil off your face (Apply SPF and leave to dry in at this stage on
days you are not using scrub or mask). Find the appropriate scrub to suit your skin type i.e.
oily skin is suited to a fine gritty, sand like scrub whereas sensitive skin is more suited to a
larger bead like jojoba that eventually melts into skin so as not to irritate but will also do
the job. A scrub is to be used once a week on dry not wet skin and is a vital part of skin care
as it removes the layers of dead skin cells and dirt that cleaners cannot in order to allow
your mask/moisturisers to soak into skin evenly. Always use a mask after your scrub as it is
at its full potential to soak in at this point, find an appropriate mask for your skin type and
use it every 10-14days in a fine layer or every 3 weeks in a thicker layer. Use an Eye Cream
and Moisturiser to suit your skin type. Drink plenty of water at least 2liters a days as your
moisturiser’s main purpose is to hold in and retain what water you have drank…and let me
tell you the last organ in the body to receive water is your skin all your internal organ i.e.
Heart, Lungs ect.. receive the amount of water they need to sufficiently function before
your skin gets any, so that is the reason it’s recommended at least 2lts a day. Try to have a
Facial for a deeper cleansing 2-3 times a year.

Try to use Paraben-Free Tans as they are less irritant and safer to use on the skin. Make
sure skin is well exfoliated and slattered with a very heavy cream ie. Palmers Coca Butter
with the Vitamin E or Aveeno Body Cream in the few days prior to Spray Tan. Make sure
any waxing is done 48hours before your tan appointment to avoid risk of allergic reactions
and if shaving do the day before. The day of the appointment shower skin, dry off and avoid
using any moisturisers, deodorants, make-up, perfumes as they will all affect the tan. Avoid
wearing tight underwear as straps and sock marks leave indentations in the skin, especially
if your outfit is strapless, one-shoulder or short. Always arrive at appointment wearing or
if coming from work bring with you, a very loose dark track-suit bottoms and loose baggy
top or zippy top to avoid pulling over head and a pair of flip-flops and of course an umbrella
because its Ireland we live in after all…. Once tan is done avoid water and sweating until
you wash it off 8 hours after and use plenty of heavy moisturiser as tan will dry out the skin.
After your occasion/weekend use exfoliating gloves to scrub off old layer of tan and refresh
it then apply cream again and continue doing this until it’s gone. This aftercare will stop that
dry crocodile skin effect and insure tan fades naturally.
