Our clients are always asking us for help and tips with Make up when they have to go away for a wedding and can’t get into the salon. There are millions of makeup looks but to keep it basic here are two that are easy to follow and bang on trend, one which may suit the inexperienced person and one more complex that may suit the regular make up wearers.
The Rosie Huntington-Whitely look: Rosie prefers to highlight and contour her features and plays up her natural features (eyes) with some must have basic gold’s and browns, every woman should have at least a few shades of each in there make up bag. She occasionally uses a black liner and is fond of a liquid with a winged effect (maybe difficult for beginners) add a coat of mascara and eyes done. Adding a few false lashes for special occasions. Even without using the liner she achieves a wide bright eyed effect with using the gold highlighter on the eyelid and blends in a shade of bronzy/brown from the socket line out to faded colour so there is no awful harsh line just below her brow. This requires a good eye shadow brush to blend away the harsh line but is very easy to get the hang of as it’s not a massively strong colour. This is a good day look. She always has a good natural foundation set down with some contouring on the cheeks bones with bronzer and an apricot blusher and nude lip gloss. If you’re feeling adventurous add a pop of colour on the lips for night time events.
There are many different shades of lipstick colours out there so find your shade to suit your skin/hair colouring.
Blonde/ Red Hair: Orangey & Scarlett Reds, some pinkish Reds, however reds with a Blue Tone can be quiet colon a cool skin person so I would avoid unless you have that extreme white out blonde funky hair , Peachy Corals, all pale Nudes, Fuchsia Pink/Purples, Softer baby pinks, Plums, Dark Brown/Berries are only a few but there are many more as there is so many different tones in every one Colour so it is a sure thing that you will find the one to suit you.
Brown Hair: can wear most of the same as blondes/red, along with deeper pinkie reds, stronger deep berry reds, cerise pinks, deep purples, lighters browns and mauve browns.
Black hair: same as above, plus deep vampish reds, deep plums and berries, lavender & bright strong purples…
For the more advanced: Kim Kardashion/Taylor Swift Look:
Both ladies have a preference for glamour’s make which does require a skilled hand, plenty of makeup brushes and time. So if you’re looking to take your regular look up a notch then this it the way to experiment as both ladies like the Smokey eye/ neutral lip AND the Coloured Lip/ Neutral Eye look. So both looks take a bit of time. You always have a full coverage foundation on for both looks to create that flawless finish. There is plenty of heavy contouring done for darker toned skin and lighter contouring for paler skin tones, every face is different and there are many ways to do this depending on your shape face and wither your using liquids or powders, play around with whichever textures feel easier to use. If you look in the mirror and imagine having cheek bones, slimmer nose, lower forehead ect.. then use your darker (1-2 shades darker than your skin tone) contouring colour on the area you would like to hide, so for the nose it would be down the sides of the nose and just at the tip, then you would take your highlighter (colour 1-2 shades lighter than your skin tone) to the areas you would like to exaggerate like on top of your cheek bones, above the cupids bow of your lip, centre of your nose. The Smokey eye does consist of a lot of blending of eye shadows for that winged eye lifting effect and finding the correct colours for you. You will need to use either a Kohl pencil liner and smudge along the eyelid and a small bit under the lower lid, you can also use liquid liner, but lines have to be very clean, add some lashes, and a nude lip gloss. For the Coloured lip, use nude base colours like creams, corals, taupe’s, bronzes and pale silvers/greys, gold’s etc..on the eyelids, shimmers are to be avoided if you have wrinkling around the eye as they cake and can make wrinkles very visible, use matte eye shadows for an eye like this. It’s nice to do a fine line with liquid eyeliner, winged effect is an option or a smoked line on upper lid. Put lashes on and a coat of mascara, choose the appropriate lipstick colour, reds, pinks, berries ect.. and the look is complete. This is quiet a hard look to master but pays off if you do it correctly.
